Money For Nothing - Dire traits / Nelly Furtado - Maneater (Youngr Mashup)
Bit of a random one for ya! Went to see Mark Knopfler at the O2 last week, and his guitar skills blew my mind. and his songwriting. and the gypsy fiddles! it was all amazing. I have to admit I didn't know much about Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler etc, so I did a bit of googling and some of the stats blew my mind. this tune - Money For Nothing - has been on repeat since the show (that guitar riff is totally badass) ... and for some strange reason it kept reminding me of Nelly Furtado's - 'Maneater' (I think it's the end of the chorus melody) anyway... I chopped up the tracks and had a bit of fun with them. (the bass-line is actually from Hall & Oats Maneater - half timed and filtered!) enjoy this weird and too wonderful combination of things!
Youngr is a solo outlet for Dario Darnell, a songwriter, producer, instrumentalist, and vocalist who makes eclectic, slightly left-of-center pop. The son of August Darnell, aka Kid Creole, Darnell made his (presumably) first recorded appearance back in the early '90s, on his father's To Travel Sideways. One of its songs featured wind chimes from him and sibling Lorne Ashley Brigham-Bowes, youngsters whose musical association extended into adulthood. During the late 2000s, the brothers recorded and performed as the Liverpool-based Picture Book, and in 2013, they were credited as co-writers of Cher's "My Love." Darnell later landed a solo deal with Island, coincidentally the same major label with which his father was once affiliated. As Youngr, Darnell released a handful of tracks across the latter half of 2016 and early 2017, including the free-spirited party track "Out of My System," the ballad "Too Keen," and acoustic versions thereof. Additionally, he synthesized vintage disco-funk and early house with his remix of Tove Lo's "True Disaster." A compilation of his various releases was issued in January 2018 under the title, This Is Not an Album.
