The song was released on September 16, 1997 as a double A-side with "Hot Like Fire".
"The One I Gave My Heart To" debuted on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in the issue week of October 4, 1997 at number 24 and went on to peak at number 9, making it the highest-charting single from the album.
