BELA CHASE returns to Australia after time in London, releasing her debut EP Velocity Raptor on Friday 14th October via Ditto Music. Featuring her lush debut single Space Kicks (released Friday 7th October), the EP unveils Bela’s exploration of electro-pop-folk that’s instantly engaging and charming. Space Kicks both beautifully delicate and fragile, contains driving beats and an electronic soundscape to give the track a sense of power. Bela combines her songwriting ability with the production skills of Jack Prest (Studios 301) who has previously worked with Sampa the Great, Jonti, as well as Flume, Skrillex and The Preatures.
Bela’s release follows after time spent cutting her teeth in London’s Indie-Pop scene, spanning over the last 6 years. Naturally evolving during this time, she has developed a strong and matured sound. Space Kicks was penned whilst assimilating back into her old life and trying to decipher her next steps.
Stemming from a new mind’s eye, Velocity Raptor encircles Bela’s newfound direction and psyche upon her return to home grounds – an electro-pop fantasy in a world of whimsy, that holds a charm all of its own. The Space Kicks clip sees Bela follow the unfaithful behaviour of a lost, onto a yacht in the middle of a river. Initially Bela’s voice draws you into her heartache. With her cheeky and playful side emerging whilst sneakily planting fireworks around the boat, to disrupt her lovers tryst. Space Kicks (directed by Michael Booth) explores the final stages of letting something go, forever. Set amidst soft lighting and a beautiful luminescent glow, it is the perfect introduction of Bela Chase back into the Australian music scene.
Not one to sit on the sidelines, Bela has been living in Europe and saw some great success with previous band Bela Takes Chase. Upon her return to Australia, Bela has gone solo, writing all of her own music and self-producing all of her live tracks and beats. She will be launching the EP in both Sydney and Melbourne this October.
This debut release emulates her newfound soundscape with driving electro beats and dreamy synth layered amongst her delicate vocals. Each track is strong, and holds its own. Bela Chase is a charming songwriter, yet also a talented producer in her own right, and Space Kicks is the perfect introduction to her world.
