Music video by Craving Theo performing Alone (No More). (C) 2001 SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT
Excavating a post-grunge landscape where Alice in Chains is a bigger influence, judging from rock radio, than everyone else up to and including Nirvana is Craving Theo. Hailing from the Pacific Northwest, the band can even lay claim to the sound as a geographically inherited birthright, though one would hope not to these extremes. The AIC trademark droning gang-vocals (singing vague drug references as often as not) over muted guitar refrains on the likes of "Hold Me Down" and "Welcome You" seem particularly plundered, and ballad "Alone" also seems right from the Layne Staley school of melodrama. Double-time rocker "All I Am" shows a slightly different feel; however, this eponymous debut remains entirely too derivative. Of course, that didn't hurt Godsmack much.
