In the video for 'Cinnamon,' Smith Westerns lead singer Cullen Omori takes a turn as a Keanu Reeves dopple left for dead in a sanitarium, staring blankly at some Animal Planet reruns on a flickering tv set. When a home video he took of a former flame (Sonia Kinski) crackles eerily onto the screen, he wakes from his stupor and escapes into the night. Haunted by his past and stalked by the dark parts of his psyche, Cullen makes it through the streets of Chinatown to the blue bed at other end.

When the Smith Westerns announced that they would be going on indefinite hiatus back in December of 2014, frontman Cullen Omori waited nearly a year to announce that he would put out a solo album. Today, Omori debuted the LP’s first single and announced its title and release date. New Misery is due out in April on Sub Pop and was recorded by Shane Stonebeck, who’s known for working with Sleigh Bells, Vampire Weekend, and Fucked Up. The new single, “Cinnamon,” is accompanied by a video which you can check out above.
