"What Would You Say" is a song by the Dave Matthews Band, released as a single in 1994, taken from their album Under the Table and Dreaming. It reached #11 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart. In June of 1995 it peaked at #9 on the Mainstream Top 40 chart.
The meaning is simple but it is to liken it to Dave's atheist line of thought. He wrote what he feels people are judgmental and are quick to assume their judgments. They don't take a step back, they run right through the motions because that's what they've always done. To me, the key here is "because of original sin." It hearkens all quick responses to "just do as you've always known." Don't think about it.
