Animal Collective’s Deakin has realized the release of his first solo album Sleep Cycle. The album is available now on Bandcamp: https://deakinjams.bandcamp.com/releases
It will be available digitally on Friday, April 8 across digital platforms including iTunes, Google Play, Amazon and Spotify.
The album originally began as a Kickstarter project in which Josh would travel to Mali to play at the Festival in the Desert and raise money for Temedt, an organization that is working to end slavery in Mali.
Earlier this year, we reported that the part-time Animal Collective member Deakin was working on his first-ever solo album. And today, Deakin has announced that that album, entitled Sleep Cycle, will be out on Friday. As in: in two days. The album started with a famously messy Kickstarter-funded trip to Mali in 2009; Deakin recent wrote to his Kickstarter backers to update them that the album was indeed coming. And along with the album announcement, he’s shared “Just Am,” a hazy eight-minute single. It sounds a bit like Merriweather Post Pavilion-era AnCo, except with discernible, almost conversational lyrics. And with the song, he also has a bright, psychedelic video. -- Stereogum
