Deerhoof plays "Pour Some Sugar on Me" by Def Leppard
San Francisco eccentrics Deerhoof are ready to mesmerize you with the genre-exploding sounds of their new The Magic LP, but that's not all they have up their sleeves. In addition to the originals, the band have revealed a bizarrely on-the-nose cover of Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar on Me."
The faithful cover has an '80s rock sheen affixed to the arrangement, with Satomi Matsuzaki recreating Joe Elliott's sticky-sweet swagger above mullet-sized rock riffs and solidly bashed drums. A music video for the cover, which you can see below, mixes the vintage, ripped jeans-repping Def Leppard clip with new footage of Deerhoof.
The cover comes from a limited-edition bonus cassette of covers that was being packaged with pre-orders of The Magic, though the tapes are now sold out. To make up for this a little bit, you can see the video above.
As for The Magic, the album arrives June 24 through Polyvinyl. -- Exclaim!
