Music video by Devlin performing 50 Grand. (C) 2015 Island Records, a division of Universal Music Operations Limited
Neither Devlin nor Skepta are really flashy dudes. In the video - as well as in real life - they can both be seen in normal attire, dressing for comfort rather than to impress. The man who opens up the video, on the other hand, steps out of his apartment looking ready to stunt on everyone he passes with his eye-grabbing gold chains around his neck and rings on his fingers.
Ironically, “50 Grand” is less about frivolous spending and more about understanding that having money isn’t everything. Skepta explains the message of the entire song best when he says, “I never had it. Made it, saved it, spent it, lost it, gave it to people who needed it more than me.” It’s not that they don’t want money, they’re just trying to do the right things with it. -- P&P
