A coven of witches call upon Dignitary to observe humans committing acts of violence via greed, lust or gluttony. They are to recount what they witness through song.
Drawing comparison to bands like Echo & the Bunnymen, Pulp, and The Cure, Dignitary employs high-energy reverb alongside crooning vocal harmonies to create hook-filled pop songs…songs about death and witches, failure and the unknown; a healthy obsession with all things supernatural and occult, yet with a dark sense of humor. The group is fronted and formed by singer/guitar player Mike Cuenca with Stacy Fratelli on keys, lead guitarist Gabe Huerta, Derek Zera James on guitar, bassist Fallon Scherzinger, and Ted iIsley on drums.
The group has quite an interesting background: drummer Ted beat two different types of cancer in the past 3 years after having a tumor, Appendectomy, Diverticulitis, and a spinal fusion, keyboardist Stacy and Ted had multiple mutual friends in their hometown but didn't meet until they moved to LA, guitar player Gabe was raised as a Jehovah’s Witness in a secluded environment, and bassist Fallon learned to play bass in 3 weeks after their previous bassist dropped out!
In 2015, after much shifting and shaping, the band’s lineup finally came together and they reintroduced themselves as Dignitary (previously, Dignitary Loss) with a five-song EP that was just released. The first single, “Destiny’s False Turn” is a fast paced dark and fictional track about murder that has changed drastically from its original raw acoustic demos. With it’s catchy drumbeats, absolutely electrifying guitar, and darkly romantic synths, The Tautology EP goes by so quickly, leaving you in anticipation of a full length album and more from this post-punk group.
