Directed by Yoakam's longtime collaborator Gregory Alosio, the "Liar" video captures Yoakam and his band performing on the back of an El Camino in the middle of rush-hour traffic on Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles. The street was not shut down and cars whiz by throughout the performance. "We almost got clipped once," Yoakam told KTLA.
"The 'Liar' music video shoot was an especially fun and unique shoot to direct because after lengthy negotiations with the city, we were granted an unusual and special clearence to capture a live performance on the legendary Sunset Strip; a street that more than any other has earned iconic status for being the location of music history for decades," says Alosio. "Acknowledging the rich music history of the Sunset Strip, concept-wise in the video, we aimed to have one foot firmly planted in a live country/rock performance and the other placed in a whimsical creative 'pop art' aesthetic of the 1960's."
"Liar" is the latest track to be released off of Yoakam's critically acclaimed new album
Second Hand Heart, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart, making it his highest-charting album in 26 years since 1988's Buenas Noches From A Lonely Room hit No. 1. Rolling Stone called Second Hand Heart Yoakam's "best songs in years," while SPIN picked it as their Album of The Week and labeled it "some of the best music of his life."
