Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros share their incredible video for "Wake Up The Sun" today. The video, directed by award winning acclaimed cinematographer Noaz Deshe was filmed just outside Chisanau, the capital of the eastern European country Moldova. Deshe explains in an interview in Nowness, "you find time stands still [in Moldova]-communism and religion are still the backdrop of an identity not yet conquered by the east or the west. It seems like any minute chain stores will spring up, but for now it is undefined by the powers that be. I was struck by the beauty of an identity not yet overtaken by what has become all-too familiar-the song struck that chord with me."
"Wake Up the Sun" is off the band's latest album PersonA, which Rolling Stone says is the band's "most risk-taking, freewheeling album yet." On an album of adventurous songs "Wake Up The Sun" may be one of the album's most ambitious and successful tracks. Careening from an urgent tight piano figure and opening into the cathartic almost church-revival chorus to it's almost "Hey Jude" pre-coda, culminating with an incredible reach for the stars ending. It's undoubtedly one of the highlights to an already amazing live show.
