Two years on from the release of his Mercury nominated debut, ‘Peanut Butter Blues and Melancholy Jam’, Ghostpoet aka Obaro Ejimiwe announces ‘Meltdown’ - the first single from his sophomore album ‘Some Say I So I Say Light’ which will be released on the 6th May 2013 through Play It Again Sam.
‘Meltdown’ is the disarmingly honest tale of one of those break-ups where both parties simply drift apart. Scarring lyrics “you and me weren’t meant to be and someone somewhere knew it from the start” expertly encapsulate everyman honesty of thought, emotion, and shoulder-shrug acceptance of failed love. Guest vocalist Woodpecker Wooliams came to feature on ‘Meltdown’ really by chance - Obaro reached out for a vocalist on Twitter – it was all very last minute due to someone else cancelling – fans responded with Woodpecker Wooliams. She turned up at the studio almost immediately and recorded her part in just two takes.
Squarepusher, one of the UK’s most important electronic artists has delivered an exceptional sonic overhaul of the original, which will be available on 10” alongside the single, exclusively for this year’s Record Store Day. Ghostpoet alongside Brit award winner Tom Odell, recently played the launch event for Record Store Day 2013. The exquisite video for ‘Meltdown’ has been directed by Dave Ma (Foals, Flight Facilities, The Horrors)
