"Home movies, looking back and remembering; even if it's looking back at happy memories, has this kind of power to bring out an overwhelming sadness and joy all in one breath. Hearing voices we can no longer hear, and seeing faces stare into the camera just like they're looking into your own eyes brings back so much - like a forbidden wish. The video uses those disposable parts in our stored tapes - the stuff that no one wants to see- but recognises. Through the fuzz of interference and the flash of colour bars we search into the idea of memory, loss, and rememberence through the degrading qualities of found-footage." Emmalouise Smith.

The video edit created by Norwich-based film-maker Emmaalouise Smith, has been put together from a series of film visuals exclusively produced for Hannah Peel's live shows, which explored a hybrid of super 8, video 8, Hi-8 and TV heading, where distortion, pace, and obscured detail are key to the creative process. Emmaalouise's own work stems from a love of working with these obsolete analogue mediums, where the seemingly discarded shots become a chance for experimentation.

The collaboration with Hannah developed as a result of an event they worked on together for The London Short Film Festival at the beginning of 2016. 'Tenderly' is one of those special moments when the audio and visual maker's ideas collide and interplay with each other. The footage presented is made up from a reel of Super- 8 wedding tape from the Peel family archive, and hours of analogue tapes, interference, title cards and tele-cine footage.
