Chicago soft-psych rockers In Tall Buildings released their sophomore album Driver earlier this year, and today they’ve shared a cosmic video for “Flare Gun.” Erik Hall - the man behind the music - is interested in surrealist writers like Kurt Vonnegut and Allen Ginsberg, and the video takes a similar bent. Here’s what he had to say about its genesis:

The idea for the video came after Kyle [Obriot, director] heard a piece on Radiolab about a phenomenon known among astronaut pilots as “G-Loc” (gravity-induced loss of consciousness). During moments of super high gravitational pull some pilots have reported experiences of being transported from their stressful reality, instead seeing images of themselves in another place entirely, often a serene environment. The song itself addresses a solitary bout between endurance and submission during times of distress, and I very much liked the connection there.
