From the album Unreal – http://jamesirwin.ca/ Digital re-release 12.15.2015 via Sainte Cecile
Video directed by Hannah Fleet
At the beginning of 2015, James Irwin delivered his latest LP Unreal, and as the year comes to a close, that same record has been digitally re-released thanks to Dare to Care Records' digital arm, Sainte Cecile. To mark the occasion, Irwin has shared a new video for album cut "A Wave Is a Wild Thing," and we've got the exclusive premiere.
"The song is about a cowboy being carried off to die, tied belly-down on the back of a packhorse," Irwin explained in a statement. "He's a death obsessed, melancholy character who's thinking finally of life and sex and love now that death is upon him."
The miserable subject matter is matched by a haunting, melancholic folk sound and the new visuals complement both perfectly. The clip was directed by Hannah Fleet, who pieced together original and digital film in a split frame.
The collection of images range from shots of nature to more abstract kaleidoscopic shapes, and you can see them swirl together beautifully in the new clip. -- Exclaim!
