In March of 2015, Janne Schra tweeted a photo of a beautiful painted staircase walk in Beirut painted by a group of artists called Paint-Up, asking (almost sarcastically) why the government of Nijmegen, the city she lives in, doesn’t do the same there. Before she knew it (and to her complete surprise) city council member Pepijn Boekhorst had arranged approval to paint one of Nijmegen’s long staircase walks, and the city’s gay community had come up with a plan for a rainbow of colours. The city paid for the paint and on July 5th about a hundred people showed up and started painting. The result is stunning.

This video sort of happened, because Janne and band were performing at Valkhof festival around the corner from those very stairs on the 19th of July. Danny Cortino was there on the 5th and filmed the whole thing. Jac Splinter made the intro time-lapse. Then there was Tim Geers, who did the drone shots with his homemade drone-cam. Danny put everything together in the edit and tadaaa.

Thanks to all the painters - please tag yourself below with a time-code!
