Joan Anita Barbara Armatrading, MBE (born 9 December 1950) is a British singer-songwriter and guitarist.

A three-time Grammy Award-nominee, Armatrading has also been nominated twice for BRIT Awards as Best Female Artist. She also received an Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contemporary Song Collection in 1996.

In a recording career spanning 40 years, Armatrading has released 18 studio albums, as well as several live albums and compilations.

The Shouting Stage is a studio album by British singer-songwriter Joan Armatrading. It was written, arranged and produced by Joan Armatrading, and recorded at Bumpkin Studio, her own studio in the grounds of her home, and mixed at Olympic Studios, London. It is her eleventh studio album. The album was released on 29 June 1988 by A&M Records (AMA 5211).

"Living For You" grew out of a suggestion by Jamie Lane that Armatrading should write songs based on rhythms generated by a drum machine. It features Guy Barker's laid back trumpet and some synthesised steel band sounds.
