Justin Timberlake covers the Jacksons' Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground) in the Live Lounge.
Justin Timberlake has always taken some obvious stylistic cues from Michael Jackson, and he rescued a bunch of Neptunes tracks that Jackson had rejected when he was recording his solo debut album Justified, scoring some of his biggest hits in the process. So it’s nice to see Timberlake giving a little public hat-tip to the guy who’s almost certainly his single greatest influence. During a recent live session for BBC Radio 1?s Live Lounge, Timberlake and his band busted out a loose-limbed, funky cover of the Jacksons’ great 1978 smash “Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground),” a song that came as close as it could to being a Michael solo song without technically being a Michael solo song. The cover is a lot of fun, and you have to admire the commitment of anyone who does synchronized dance-steps during what’s supposed to be a radio performance. -- Stereogum
