TURN UP! LISTEN CLOSE! THINK BIG! DO BETTER!
The first half of the title to Kardinal Offishal's Kardi Gras Vol. 1: The Clash alludes to some serious partying, but the second half hints at conflict. The latter is highlighted in the video for the album's police authority-questioning "No Reason," which is streaming online now.
The video finds the Toronto rapper and a group of balaclava-branded associates hopping train gates and representing on public transit and city streets, one would assume for "no reason."
Instead, Kardi bounces from lines about hucking money in the air to more potent bars about stereotyping for a thought-provoking back end ("I try to be friendly, but most of them would want to send me to prison without the key because I'm black and I'm free").
What follows is a cathartic, fired-up and unmasked performance, and you can see it all above. -- Exclaim!
