Lionel Brockman Richie Jr. (born June 20, 1949) is an American singer, songwriter, actor and record producer. He also co-wrote the 1985 charity single "We Are the World" with Michael Jackson, which sold over 20 million copies. Richie has sold over 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the world's best-selling artists of all time. He is also a five-time Grammy Award winner. In 2016, Richie received the Songwriters Hall of Fame's highest honor, the Johnny Mercer Award.

Louder Than Words is the fourth studio album by Lionel Richie, released on April 16, 1996. It also marked the first time he released a studio album of new material in ten years. In 1992 he released just three new tracks on his compilation album Back to Front. Louder Than Words debuted at #33 on the Billboard 200 with a disappointing sales of 28,000 copies, and only peaked at #28.
