Since early childhood, music has been a vital part of Lisa Doby’s life. During her school years she played the trumpet and the violin, sang in gospel choirs and jazz bands. But only when her a capella group “Nishati” was founded at Wake Forest University, did Lisa realize this was more than just a hobby: she wanted to put more work and time into music. A semester spent in France became her first step towards an amazing career. She started performing in front of larger audiences and soon shared the stage and opened for artists like Ray Charles, Patricia Kaas, Joe Cocker.
Born and raised in South Carolina, USA, her roots clearly lie in gospel and soul. And, combined with her bands’ rock background, this versatility makes a fascinating musical voyage and FREE TO BE (her first release with independant label JazzHaus Records) is a special treat.
