The video for “Dark Child,” a heavy and world-weary alt-country jam from New Zealand singer-songwriter Marlon Williams, is probably the weirdest thing you’ll see on the internet today. Director Damian Golfinopoulos’ clip starts out with a scene we’ve seen in a million crime movies. It’s the aftermath of a grisly crime, and we see all the old familiar sights: The bereaved loved ones looking devastated and confused on the stoop, the defiant murderer being led out in handcuffs, the flashing police lights. But a few details are just off, and more and more of those details pile up until we’re looking at a surreal swirl that made me think of Too Many Cooks. Like Williams’ video for “Hello Miss Lonesome,” it’s a vivid and absorbing vision, and you can check it out above.
