Out from the shadows appears a trio of Singapore cats armed with deadly instruments and a need to fill the air with their eclectic alt-rock tunes. This psych-rock trio’s music will slowly creep in through your window in the middle of the night and wait for you in a dark corner in your room, patiently awaiting to pounce.

Back in 2010, Hentai Cat (Vocals, Guitar), Psycho Cat (Vocals, Guitar) and Meta Cat (Drums) were disillusioned by their impending graduation into the absurdity of Singaporean white-collar life. They decided to get together to work on the only thing that gave them a sense of hope: music. A year after forming the group, they released their 5 song EP Mannequins and exploded onto the small but enthusiastic Singapore indie scene. Their music echoed the anxieties and tensions of an increasingly embittered Singapore society: a young society of mixed Asian heritage and colonial history that was trying to find its identity and cultural value in the world amidst strict laws, suffocating social constructs and a widening income gap shadowed by the nation’s zealous economic growth policies. With such real world issues being addressed, MONSTER CAT doesn’t exude the typical cheap thrill music of generic rock numbers but instead showcase psychedelic rock anthems that can be compared to those of Placebo and Ariel Pink.

Monster Cat’s latest video for “Take Me To Love” combines the essence of grittiness with raw power to create a trippy mind excursion. It takes you through a wild arrangement of psychedelic visuals that will have you thinking, “What the fuck!” but in a good way. They mash together eighties style video reels filled with cats, oily butts, creepy eyes, open fields and some really interesting animated cartoons.
