From the album "Inevitable" out on Dropping Gems

Natasha Kmeto’s latest album, Inevitable, is a record filled with longing and unanswered questions. Her production reflects the half-finished conversations. While the warm synths hum a grand fanfare and the drums kick a tough rhythm, the pristine sounds echo in a room full of negative space. A lot in between feels missing.

“I Thought You Had a Boyfriend”, a highlight single from Inevitable, recently got the video treatment, and it’s a good opportunity as any to revisit the fantastic LP. Though the cold, mellow production doesn’t allow much room for growth, the stillness only emphasizes the tense, unfinished business at hand. Kmeto’s main refrain addresses the issue head on: “I thought you had a boyfriend/ I thought you had a man/ I thought it wasn’t like that/ I thought you had a plan.” She sings with conviction, her gut-reaching vocals gripping at every word, but the talk remains open-ended like the hole carved in the middle from her production.

Inevitable is out now via Dropping Gems.
