Parades is an Australian art-rock band from Sydney, New South Wales, formed in 2008. The band comprises Daniel Cunningham, Tim Jenkins, Michael Scarpin and Jonathan Boulet. They are noted for their independent approach to songwriting and production, with all production handled by the four members and recording and mixing by Jonathan Boulet.
The band's stylistic approach has been likened to that of seemingly disparate influences such as Sigur Ros, Manitoba, Eno and even vague allusions to Fugazi. The Parades live band generally consists of several additional members to recreate their studio production, most notably Alyx Dennison and Freya Berkhout from Sydney's Kyu, however this has been occasionally extended to a brass and/or percussion section in past performances.
Cunningham and Boulet also perform in Sydney-based hardcore act Snake Face.
Parades' debut album "Foreign Tapes" was released in April 2010 through Dot Dash/Remote Control. It was mastered in Sweden by Pelle Henriccson (Refused's "The Shape Of Punk To Come", Poison The Well's "You Come Before You") at Tonteknik Record and has received critically lauded within Australia, prompting the band to tour extensively in support of the record. The video for the single "Loserspeak In New Tongue" was created by PHARM Productions on a shoestring budget and was received favourably on ABC's Rage as well as their mainstream counterparts Video Hits and Channel V.
