Preoccupations - “Degraded” from ‘Preoccupations’ out September 16, 2016 on Jagjaguwar
Director: Valentina Tapia
This video offers an encounter with the primordial ruins of a post-human landscape, where sentient sculptural artifacts attempt to reassemble themselves piece by piece. Unidentified abstracted organisms carry on and thrive in a terrain that’s begun to settle back into itself, as rendered in scenes of mixed digital and painted 2D and 3D animation.
After premiering their "Degraded" single earlier in the summer, Preoccupations have now uploaded a dizzying, CGI-swirling music video for their latest post-punk cut.
As previously reported, the song puts to use band bassist Matt Flegel's low but sinewy baritone, here reporting in-song, "predictably, we gave no goals/incapable of abstract thought." With that line in mind, the video presents a series of ever-shifting, awkward shapes contorting themselves over digital desertscapes.
Preoccupations, the first release from the Calgary-formed quartet since their name change from Viet Cong, sees release September 16 through Flemish Eye/Jagjaguwar. -- Exclaim!
