art of the fun of watching Racing Glaciers‘ brand new video for “First Light” is trying to figure out what is going on.

Between taking the trash out, meeting a mystery girl, and getting lost in the woods, it’s not all that clear how a song about “choosing ignorance over acceptance at the end of a relationship” (as band-member Danny Thorpe stated) helps to connect the dots. However, I guess that’s the point, the unknowing of it all, not being able to (and not wanting to) understand what’s happening when faced with a breakup.

Directed by Ben Newbury, who has put his stamp on songs from Ellie Goulding, Dan Croll, and Laurel, it’s a visually engaging video that plays with lighting and landscape, to contrast against the clarity of Racing Glacier’s post-rock sound. The ending is a natural one, as the love-struck couple look onto the ocean expanse (one of life’s ultimate unknowns) in the cold reality of morning – the band’s poignant “first light”.

This track, along with the earlier release “Moths”, will feature on the UK outfit’s third EP, Don’t Wait For Me, from the excellent Killing Moon Records this summer.
