There’s something about Richie Quake’s lo-fi bedroom pop that doesn’t overstate itself. It’s not as if he’s sitting comfortably in one safe spot or anything, in fact he’s been steadily improving and getting more ambitious since we first took a look at his music back in 2013. His music possesses an endearing homemade feel to it that adds to the overall product, kind of like a perfect representation of imperfection itself.

There’s a heart at the core of his music, earnest blemishes and all. His aesthetic is relatively scruffy, and each of the tracks he’s put out thus far crackle like an old vinyl on its last legs, and this Harmony Korine meets Wes Anderson style carries over to his visuals, too. As the follow-up to the gorgeously mellow “Robonuthin,” the video for the equally as mesmerizing “Slow Down” showcases Quake’s most confident visuals yet.

Embodying his sound and the generally laid-back vibe of the track itself, the glitchy video keeps things simple. Just like an unearthed VHS featuring a forgotten gem, the video has an almost timeless quality to it despite its deliberately aged look.
