VOID album out now

Directed by David Rudnick & Daniel Swan
Particle Animation by Bob Walmsley
Additional Animation by Andrew Keyser

After recently releasing his debut LP, VOID, all star trap producer RL Grime has released a video for his track “Valhalla”, featuring Djemba Djemba. The video features similarly paced shots to those found in the artist’s “Core”, while exploring familiar themes of war and technology.

The video starts with a sunrise behind an army of neon coated helicopter blades, which hint at a central concept of warfare revolving around an ambiguous conflict. Symmetry is used as a tool by directors David Rudnick and Daniel Swan to create a feeling of machine-oriented precision, which seems to intentionally provide a disconnect between human and war machine.

The video “depicts a cinematic attack by the mysterious “Void Team” on an otherworldly energy source”, and thus it adds an extra element of intensity to the audio of “Valhalla”. During the second build up, shots illustrate the team circulating a heated area of an unfamiliar planet before treating it with beams of light and eventually “enacting Valhalla protocol” and “awaking the Carrier”. Watch the video yourself to understand and embrace its movie-like structure.

Grime’s VOID was just released on November 17 via WeDidIt Records.
