(C) Runaway Weekend 2016
Adelaide’s Runaway Weekend bring forward polished, cinematic and extremely well-crafted songs with their debut EP ‘Déjà Vu’, which unfolds like an intoxicating soundtrack to youth. The young pop-rock band from South Australia are completely independent and have written, produced and recorded all songs themselves. The end result is an incredibly exciting debut release for this promising band that will charm with their thoughtful layers and emotive lyrics.
Déjà Vu the first single from Adelaide’s Runaway Weekend, and will immediately capture the listener as it brings forth a sense of cinematic and layered textures, with emotional vocal lines. Influenced by bands like The 1975 and The Neighbourhood, Runaway Weekend are an incredibly ambitious and disciplined band who have been locked away writing and recording for months, putting everything they have into their debut EP. Déjà Vu serves as an introduction to them as a band and showcases their songwriting skills and ability to put together an extremely polished debut for a young, self-funded band. The EP has been completely written, recorded and produced by the band in their bedrooms and the songwriting skills of these young artists are quite remarkable. Second single Youngblood further cements the band’s songwriting skills, with an 80s throwback production value contrasted by completely current vocals that will resonate with young people in Australia who appreciate catchy pop-rock.
Runaway Weekend explains, "We really hope that people can find something of themselves in our music and if they do, hopefully they can also lock themselves away in it to escape from reality for a bit, like we do with our favourite bands. At the end of the day we're just some teenagers from Adelaide who want to affect people, we want to make people feel something, be that utter happiness or realisation. Through our music we want to touch people, like we've been touched by artists and if we can do half as good a job as the artists we admire, we'd be totally complete."
