Saint Sister is the self-described atmosfolk duo of Gemma Doherty and Morgan MacIntyre. They blend intricate synth patterns and stirring atmospheric sweeps with lush strings and flavorful acoustic guitar for entrancing excursions. Their latest offering was last winter’s Madrid EP and it’s easy to get lost in the minimal, chasmic, but beautifully arranged soundscapes. The title track was a standout, and today it receives a visual treatment from Bob Gallagher.
The clip follows Orla MacIntyre as she finds red apples while wondering through the beautiful countryside and forests of northwest Ireland. A loose narrative of a hunt unfolds and she is captured by black hooded figures after encountering a doppelganger. She’s taken back to a cabin where she discovers several versions of herself being held captive in a room. The visuals are shot beautifully, and “Madrid” easily fits the role of film score with it’s fluctuating energy and cinematic richness. Here’s what Gallagher had to say about he concept for the video: It’s sort of a grass is always greener story line but with creepy clones. The clones work as alternate versions of the same character, so in a way she answers the question of what if I go, what if I stay by experiencing both.
