'Ruby' is the first single from Seagull's third full length album 'Ocean from Above' set for release in October 2013 through Two Bright Lakes/Remote Control and distributed nationally through Inertia.
The first song written for the album, 'Ruby' leads off quietly with the intricate almost baroque guitar playing of Chris Bolton as he sings of ocean sojourns, winged freedom and salvation. Influenced by early Elliot Smith recordings, with the use of double tracked guitar and vocals, the signature drums of Kishore Ryan (Kid Sam) slowly make their entrance mid-song, their rolling rhythm escalating under Bolton's delicately sung words.
Featuring songs composed in the dark cabins of night trains and empty beachs, of unique characters and perspectives, Seagull's third album Ocean From Above pushes Bolton's songwriting to a new level, touching on joy, heartbreak, mania and toil, taking listeners to contemplative emotional places.
Seagull will be on tour with Whitley Oct/Nov 2013 playing solo sets nationally and will launch the album in Melbourne on October 6th at the Northcote Social Club with Footy and Paddy Mann (Grand Salvo).
