Choosing Katy Perry’s “Roar” from the A.V. Undercover list probably wasn’t much of a choice at all for Tacocat. After all, a minor corner of the internet blew up when Perry’s Super Bowl halftime show used a now-famous shark as a backup dancer - a shark that was strikingly similar to one Tacocat used in a video for their song “Crimson Wave.” But the members of Tacocat weren’t mad - they just wanted Perry to come over and hang out. Maybe Perry will check out the feminist surf-punk band’s rendition of her massive 2013 hit and they can go on tour together, sharing the costs of Left Shark. Tacocat’s latest album is the delightfully sneering Lost Time.

Fresh off the release of their third album Lost Time, goofy Seattle punks Tacocat covered Katy Perry’s “Roar” for The A.V. Club’s Undercover series, which kicked off for another season last week with Eric Bachmann covering David Bowie. Watch Tacocat’s energetic and fun performance of the Perry hit above
