The Controllers, a three-man band that emerged from lead vocalist, Zac Connelly’s parents garage, have taken 2013 by storm, and intend on leaving their mark in the new year across Melbourne and beyond. Their latest single “Regression” will be released in March 2014.
In between each of their grunge-like melodies, consisting of strident strums on the guitar and aggressive vocals, exists a stumped love story as composed by Zac himself - a trend that glides through each of the tracks. Their influences, such as Against Me!, Chick Corea, and Violent Soho can be made out as, quite often, the shrieking vocals are steadily balanced with soothing acoustic elements.
The Controllers new single, Regression, is a song about fighting with mixed feelings and having to make the decision of whether to go back to how things used to be or staying unsatisfied in the current circumstances. It was recorded at Basin Studios in The Basin, Victoria by Matt Darcy.
