The Everly Brothers Live at the Royal Albert Hall in London, 1983.

Phil Everly of the Everly Brothers died Friday of complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease according to the LA Times. He and older brother Don were a hugely influential vocal duo who scored dozens of hits in the late ’50s and early ’60s, setting the record for the most Top 100 singles by a duo. Along with folks like Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry, they were in the inaugural group of ten performers inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1986. Guitarists as well as singers and songwriters, Phil (the tenor) and Don (baritone) influenced the harmonies of early rock groups like the Beatles and the Beach Boys, and in recent years were covered by Ben Gibbard, Fiona Apple, Eddie Vedder, and Billie Joe Armstrong and Norah Jones. Phil Everly was 74.
