Australian outfit The Paper Kites share the endearing video for lead single, “Electric Indigo” from their sophomore album twelvefour, available August 28 via Nettwerk Records.
Directed by up and coming filmmaker Matthew Cox and the team at Indimax Productions, the video stars actress Laura Brent (The Chronicles Of Narnia, A Few Best Men) and was set at a local Melbourne haunt, Dance or Go, a club known for kicking out patrons who aren’t dancing. The video’s narrative focuses on a struggling writer who heads out for the night in search of various forms of inspiration.
Written entirely between midnight and four in the morning, twelvefour is a concept record that explores the theory that an artist’s creative peak lays within these hours. Similarly, the video is also themed around the hours after midnight.
For two sleepless months lead singer/guitarist Sam Bentley worked, reversing his sleep patterns and penning 30 songs in his home studio. “I got to the end and thought, I'm never doing that again,” Sam laughs. Lyrically, twelvefour isn’t about some sort of somnambulist or insomniac blues, however. “You’re always more melancholy during those hours,” Sam points out.
Achieving a bigger and bolder sound, the group travelled to Seattle to record with Grammy-nominated producer Phil Ek (Father John Misty, Manchester Orchestra, Fleet Foxes, The Shins). As such, twelvefour is lush and intimate: think drum machines, dirtier guitars mixed with soulful, smooth synth moment. Plentiful late night vibes.
