Thyrsday is Sydney’s newest answer to indie-folk with a palpably vintage affinity. Originating from a collective restless night, lurking around Gumtree, to finally forging late-night connections with strangers, this saga could have easily been the premise of a B-grade horror flick. Instead, (and fortuitously so), this is how the emerging four-piece band came to be. Thyrsday’s debut track 'Skin' was penned minutes after an emotional confrontation. “In many ways, writing Skin was a breakthrough for me. It was a cathartic experience and it just wrote itself. I think there’s beauty in remaining cryptic about the actual story behind it, but I’ll say as much that I think the sentiment of disappointment and redemption is relatable to a lot of people.” Nikki Malvar - Thyrsday vocalist retreating to the Central Coast paradise of Forgotten Valley Music Studios, 'Skin' was recorded and produced by the acclaimed Scott Horscroft (Silverchair, Birds of Tokyo, The Presets). The debut single has already caused ripples in its wake, landing itself as a finalist, and the band as a commended artist in the 2013 Musicoz - Australian Independent Music Awards. 'Skin's accompanying Music Video, by ARIA Nominated director Alex Weltlinger (360, Boys Like You) is simultaneously eerie and sensual. Drawing from Joni Mitchell’s melodic storytelling, a touch of the Billie-Holiday-blues, and an understated Nancy Sinatra bravado, Thyrsday delivers a brand of folk, uniquely sullen and charmingly potent.
"It doesn't hook instantly but this one will get you in the end. Great vocal and the band know what they're doing." Dave Ruby Howe, triple j
