U.S. Girls is currently back out on the road, touring in support of last year's Half Free, and the Meg Remy-led project has just unveiled some new visuals for one of the songs off that same album.
Based on its title alone, "New Age Thriller" was crying out for some dark, suspenseful visuals, and that's exactly what it's been matched with now. The haunting, and at times jarring "sci-fi dance number" was given the video treatment by director (and Remy's father-in-law) Ross Turnbull.
In a press release, Remy explains that the song is about the world being asleep "and the alarm has been going off for so long that it doesn't matter if we wake up now."
To capture that feeling of existential crisis, Turnbull turned to Godard's Alphaville for inspiration and shot footage of a housing complex in Toronto's Regent Park neighbourhood getting razed to make room for more condos. That footage gets paired with additional shots of shadowy figures moving through the night and silhouettes singing into the camera.
