Your Hand Holding Mine- Yellow Days

George Van De Broek is a 17-year-old from Haslemere, England who records under the moniker Yellow Days. Nothing about his brand of bedroom grooves hints at his age. With a soulful, weathered husk he sings evocative, abstract lyrics that are slyly penetrating. His first single on London-based label Good Years is “Your Hand Holding Mine.” It’s a woozy, simmering song tinged with the old-school soul of Motown as Van De Broek sings of a romance lost and all the things that slip away as lovers’ hands loosen from each other’s clutches. As for the accompanying clip, psychedelic overlays of the gangly teen traveling down an empty two-lane highway double down on the song’s lovelorn longing. Here’s what Van De Broek had to say about the track:

“Your Hand Holding Mine” is a song about that first love ending and how you used to tell each other you’d stay together till you’re old and grey but it hasn’t worked out like that and you’re now dealing with the fact you always thought it would be their hand holding yours, but it isn’t going to be. And yeah when I was around 14 I found that first love and the tune is like an account of me dealing with that odd feeling.
